INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION
The monthly meeting of the committee of the Wellington Provincial Industrial Association was held last evening. The president, Mr. F. J. Evans, occupied the chair.
A letter was received from the Hon. James Allen, Minister of Defence, ac-, knowledging receipt of the association's communication containing, information respecting the . manufacture of artificial limbs by-Messrs. J. A. Packer and Son. The Minister said he regretted that as other arrangements had been made tlie Government was unable to avail itself of the offer.
The Secretary said that Messrs. Packer and Son, he was informed, manufactured artificial limbs at bedrock prices. The President remarked that the Minister's reply was unsatisfactory. • He suggested that the association write to the Government asking whether arrangements had been made to import artificial limbs, or would the Government encourage a local industry. This suggestion was v agreed to. The secretary, Mr. H. F. Allen, reported that he had written to the Industrial Association of. Canterbury, stating that the Wellington Association was of opinion that the question of considering the Customs tariff would necessarily follow the setting up of the Board "of Industries, " and therefore ; it would be better to wait till that board was set up before further action was taken. It was resolved to make further enquiries with respect to the suggestion of the Industrial Association of Canter; bury to establish a Board of Industries.
