WADESTOWN
The new nomination system, which deprives town householders of the excitement of an election, has apparently caused Wadestown residents to lose interest in their annual meeting.. Less than half-a-dozen persons were present last night, and in the unavoidable absence of the chairman and secretary, Mr. H. Owen, a member of the committee, made a brief statement as to school affairs. The number of scholars was now so. large that the overcrowding had become serious, but by tho strenuous exertions of the headmaster and the committee the school buildings had been kept constantly clean and disinfected, and the health of the scholars was. good. The inspector' 3 report was satisfactory ; one junior free place had been won by
the school, and several proficiency certificates had been awarded. Cabinet had granted £500 of the £1500 promised for a new school, plans for which had been drawn up, and -tenders for the work would be called for shortly. Receipts for the year, including a balance of £37 5s 5d from the previous year, amounted to £100 Is lid, and after provviing for all expenses there remained a balance of £55 15s 6d. Successive committees had been building up a fund to help in furnishing the new school when finished, hence the substantial balance. Contributions for a roll of honour of old boys who had gone to the war totalled £7 4s 6d ; tliis amount was held ovoer for the present. The nominations for the committee were as follow: —Messrs. E. G. C. Wiffin, W. M. Ellis, H. Owen, P. J. Wilkinson, G. Player; T. Kaywood, and Mrs. K. Moore.
