MIRAMAR AFFAIRS
A special meeting of the Miramar Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor (Mr. F. Townsend) presiding. There were also present:—Councillors S. M. Stone, 'S. H. Underwood, H. Hawthorne, M. Tracy, W. H. Green, and J. 'Pollock. A letter was received from the secretary of the General Labourers' Union concerning a suggested increase of 10 per cent, in the wages paid to the labourers in tlie employ of the council during the war.—lt was resolved to give the suggestion full consideration. The Miramar Municipal Electors' Association requested the council to clear the footpath at the entrance to the Miramar Town Hall.—The request was favourably considered. The general account for the year 1915-16 just ended showed an expenditure of £11,696 13s 3d, and . receipts £8119 10s 10d, leaving a. debit balance of £3577 2s_ sd. The bank balance showed a deb"it of £2828 5s 9d, and total balances of accounts being: debit £4846 .18s 3d, credit £2618' 12s 6d. The council discussed at length the proposed alterations in the lime-table for Miramar and Seatoun cars.—lt was resolved that the alterations as proposed be agreed to. The consideration of the request of the Miramar Golf Club for a remission of rates was taken in committee.
