KING EDWARD VII. MEMORIAL HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN
TO THE EDITOE. Sir, —As a subscriber to the fund raised, largely through the energy and devotion to the purpose of Mrs. Wilford and • Mr. Hugh Ward, some five years ago for the erection of the above building, and for that specific purpose only, I desire to protest against the proposal of the present Hospital Board to 'divert and practically seize half of the building for purposes quite foreign to the original plan. The only excuse put forward by the- board is that the occupation will be only temporary, but the tendency will be to make such occupation permanent. With the present building isolated as a separate children's ward, the combination of adult cases, infectious or otherwise, is, I take it, a distinct breach of trust placed in the hands of the board for specific purposes. This, I think, represents the views of the subscribers and the public. The board's action cannot be too strongly condemned as a vicious one.—l am, etc.,
R. T. TURNBULL. Wellington, 7th April.
