ROTORUA, 7th April.

On Thursday, Mr. M'Connell Hayes, of Mokai (fifty-four miles from Rotorua), reported to the police that one of his children was dead and four others seriously ill, and 'that no doctor was available. Dr. Bertram went out and found the children were ' apparently suffering from acute enteritis. He ascertained they had eaten some raw mushrooms, and they, may have eaten some fungus. ' The symptoms were consistent with poisoning. One child, Rene, aged three years and ten months, died on Tuesday, and another, Vernon, sixteen months old, late last night. Two others are in /a critical condition.
