A NIGHTWATCHMAN ASSAULTED
Thfc nightvvatchman of the Petone Sewerage Works while on duty on Thursday last, at 10.45 p.m., on the Hutt-road, Petoue, was apparently without reason, seriously assaulted by two men and a woman, one of the men being dressed in a soldier's uniform. According to Mr. Marley, the nightwatchman, he was attending to his duties as usual, when he noticed that one of his lamps had been put out, and on investigating he found the two men in the act of putting out another light. He asked the mem why they were interfering with the lamps, and was then kicked severely on the leg, and struck on the left ear and mouth. Mr. Marley has since been confined to his bed and is suffering much pain.
