EMPRESS THEATRE.

Charlie Chaplin and " Fatty " will be seen in their current fun-making for the last time at' the Empress Theatre j to-night, and "The Daughter of Da,rkI ness," with all her startling and sensational endeavours to evade the police, will make her thrilling escape also for the last time. The Pathe Gazette and the bright comedy, " His Lordship," will also be screened. "MBS. BLACK IS BACK." Miss May tnvin, although perhaps not widely known to New Zealanders, is described as the cleverest and most distinguished comedienne in the United States. Last year, in New York, the comedy in which she appeared, " MrsBlack is Back," was the outstanding theatrical success of the season. It has been put into film form by the Famous Players Company, and the services of Miss Irwin have been retained. ir> the part oJ the happy, plump, good-natured widow, who married Professor Black, and whom she adored and also feared. The professor was extremely strict on tho question of lying, ami held that the "white" lie was just as bad as the "black" variety. Mrs. Black had sinned in this respect, owning to 27 summers when 36 had passed over her head. This seemingly harmless little "fib" brought much trouble for the plump widow, especially when the 17----year-old son of the first marriage arrives unexpectedly from England. However, all ends happily; Mrs. Black comes back, but not until many swiftly moving incidents which cause endless amusement have run their course. The picture will be screened all next week at the Empress Theatre, commencing at 11 a.m. on Monday. Other good pictures will also be shown.
