FRENCH EVACUATE MALANCOURT

THE RAID IN THE NORTH SEA

GERMANY AND A SEA WAR

THE BRITISH VICTORY AT ST. ELOI

On the outskirts of Douaumont the Germans have -been again attacking, but without result, accompanied by losses, but they have succeeded in entering Malancourt village. On several portions of the Western front enemy aeroplanes have been active, seven being brought down— five in the tVerdun district. Eepeated attacks to recapture the redoubt at Avocourt Wood have proved very costly to the enemy. The Reichstag Budget Committee is in agreement that a sea war must be carried out to secure a successful isgue of the war. Mr. Phillip Gibbs supplies an interesting description of the British victory at St. Eloi. The prisoners captured were in fighting fettle, and all were fine men, excellently equipped. Swedish opinion is said to have changed. German defeat is considered to be inevitable.
