NAVY LEAGUE

EXECUHVK MEETING.

The local Executive of the Navy League held a meeting last night. Mr, J. B. Harcourt presided, and there were also present Messrs. A. F. Wiren, R. Darroch, C R. Smith, D. M'KoJlar, G. G. Townsend, C. B. Morison, K.C., and C. W. Palmer (secretary).

It was reported that arrangements had been made with the Education Board for the distribution in country schools of a further quantity of extracts from the London Times dealing with the work of the Grand Fleet during the war.

An acknowledgment was received from London of the receipt of £200. for sailors' comforts. Lord Charles Beresford, chairman of the Administrative Committee, warmly thanked the masters and children of the Wellington South and other Wellington schools for their generous donations. It was most touching to perceive how sympathetic the children had been to those whose ceaseless and weary vigil had protected the Empire's honour and safety.

Correspondence was received from London and elsewhere referring to the successful observance of Trafalgar Day. The Overseas Club wrote, acknowledging donations to the tobacco fund.

A letter from Commodore Halsey conveyed Admiral Sir John Jellicoe's' sincere thanks for a message of congratulation sent by the branch at the close of 1915.

The secretary informed the meeting that 1500 copies of illustrated books for this year's juvenile members, had arrived. It was resolved that one-half of the school subscriptions (Is) should go to the Sailors' Comforts Fund, as in 1915.
