BUILDERS' LABOURERS

NEW AWARD ASKED FOR.

(IS! TEU!O!UttI.— TKCSS ASSOCIATION.)

AUCKLAND, 6th March.

An application of the Auckland Builders' Labourers' Union for a new award replacing that mnde in 1913 was heard by the Arbitration Court this morning. In outlining the union's case Mr. Richards stated that objection was taken to a counter-proposal by the employers that shift work should be paid for at ordinary rates. Apart from this the 44-hour week had been practically agreed to. An increase of wages from Is 2d to Is 5d per hour was asked for. The Court reserved its decision, pending the hearing of cases affecting the Auckland contractors' labourers, lime and cement workers, and ironworkers' labourers, which wore to follow.
