SEVERAL BUILDINGS DESTROYED
AT TAIHAPE.
(HI TELEURAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
TAIHAPE, This Day.
On Sunday morning, at 2.30 o'clock, a fire was discovered in Green's hairdresser's and tobacconist's shop. It quickly spread to Nicholl's picture theatre, • Bonnor's fruit shop, Davies's (solicitor) and A. M. Ryan's offices, all of which were totally destroyed. Butchart's bakery and confectionery was badly damaged, and J. P. Aldridge's office and Gibb's motor garage suffered slightly. All the buildings destroyed were owned by T. Elliott Wilson, his total insurance being only £400 in the State office, leaving a loss of over £ICOO. Nicholls had £200 on his picture plant in the New Zealand office, Green £100 on his stock, Davies £200, but Bonnor was not insured. The other insurances are not obtainable. Davies's strong room is still standing, and it is believed his documents are safe. The picture theatre is to be rebuilt immediately.
