A RECRUITING SURPRISE
ALL DERBY GROUPS CALLED
POOR RESPONSE IN SOME
quarters:
(Received February It, 10 a.m.)
LONDON, 13th February.
■ The announcement of the calling up of the remaining eleven classes of unmarried men came as a surprise, as they .expected to be called up in batches at Intervals.
There has been activity at the War Office in the last few days. It is noteworthy in this connection , that the Army Council has sent new recruiting instructions to Birmingham, pointing .out that the calling up of the first four groups resulted in obtaining only a very small percentage of " possibles," and that: the lists must be-revised .continually. It is also believed, but unconfirmed, thai the younger married men in the Derby groups have been notified to come forward within a month.
