PRESIDENT SATISFIED WITH PRESENT ARMY
SYSTEM,
WASHINGTON, 12th February.
Mr. Garrison (United States Secretary to the Army), resigned his post because President Wilson refused to adopt measures for a sufficiently strong army to'defend the United States.
President Wilson declares that he believes the present programme should provide all that is required. The President complains bitterly ot trie misunderstanding ol the United States' position throughout the world. Ho says he is not afraid of the slow verdict of history,- which will show that he took the right course in not allowing t-he world's quarrel to become an American quarrel He warns the public that the trouble lias merely been held at arm's length; there is no knowing when it may actually involve them, and hence the necessity for preparedness.
