TERRIBLE FIGHTING
;^'L'onHoo'-m"essa'ge states that all eyes are again turne'3 >jßn the Balkans. The French have, according to a Parisian ipaper, crossed the iVardar, and installed themselves on the -right bank, in the region of Eentso and TVerria. A later me.ssage—this from London—states,- however, that there !has been no occupation of new ground, that the French iba-ve been merely making cavalry reconnaissances. The If act seems to remain that Allied troops continue to pour anto Salonika, and that an advance of some kind has been Tendered possible—perhaps, as one message suggests, to prevent an attack from the direction of Monastir.
In Bukqwina there has been further fighting of a .very * tviolent character. The Russian attacks are reported to jhave been particularly terrible. In East Galicia and on (the Volhynian front the Russians are also showing much ■activity, while on the Bessarabian front there has been 'a very violent struggle, which presumably still.continues. In the latter connection it is interesting to note that railjway communication, consequent on the movement ofitroops, is suspended between Rumania and Russia.
News regarding the recent German Note to fAmerica is .very interesting. There is much speculation as to [whether Germany's latest threat is likely to succeed..
