■At the monthly meeting of the .Eastbourne Borough Council last night, the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Kelly) presided, andthere was a .full attendance of ..members. . ■ ' ...
The Ferry Board reported that exceptionally good business had been done during December, the receipts exceeding those of December, 1914. ■ Owing to the results of the children's excursions having proved, entirely satisfactory, it was decided to continue them, until the 31st inst. It was decided to prosecute two persons ■ for having; as it- was alleged, travelled oii a steamer without paying their fares ;■ and the manager was instructed to arrange for a ticket ■ inspection ac frequent intervals.
In regard to a suggestion by Mr. J. Fuller, jun., that the council' should run its boats from the Taranaki-street wharf on Sundays, it was reported that the Wellington Harbour Board had written that traffic . arrangements rendered tho proposal impracticable.
The Building Committee reported that a commencement had been mads with the erection, of a building in the borough without a permit. It was decided that action be taken against the person concerned.
The dog tax was fixed' at 10s for ordinary dogs, and Ss for working dogs. '. Further consideration was given to a proposal by Mr. J. W. Blacfcnan. of Masterton, to establish coal-gas works in the borough. It.was <|ecided, after considerable discussion, to take no action, in tho matter. • ' ' ' ■•
Attention was drawn to the. number of camps that have this year been established .on tlio Domain. Tho Town Clerk was instructed to erect notices that camping oii the..Domain is.prohibited, .without his.permission.
