ACCIDENT TO A STEAMER

WANGANUI, This Day.
A peculiar accident happened on the steamer John, which arrived from Wellington this morning. When berthing at the town wharf the vessel was carried by a strong tide against the bridge broadside, and the deckhouse was caught under the decking of the bridge and considerably damaged. A' lifeboat on the port side and the davits were smashed. The damage may be £100. .
