CUP DAY

RACING AT TRENTHAM

BEE'S WIN IN RECORD TIME

NONES SCORES IN WATEB.LOO PLATE.

(By "Sir Lancelot.")

The rain which fell in town yesterday morning affected the attendance of city folk at Trenthara. The enclosures, however, were well filled, as hundreds of Boldiers were present, and the khakiclad representatives were here there, and everywhere they could get a glimpse of the racing. The men in uniform included Lieutenant G. B. Hull, treasurer of the club. Sir Joseph Ward, Sii Geo. Clifford, Sir James Carroll, Hon. J. D. Ormond, Hon. W. H. Herries, Messrs. G. Hunter, T M. Wilford, Jl.P.'s, G. D. Greenwood, T. H. Lowry, E. J. Watt. W. E. Bidwill, and other representative owners wei'e among those in attendance.

■ Light rain fell early in tho afternoon, but only sufficient to lay the dust and improve the going. It was not surprising, therefore, that in three of. the events fresh records for Trentbaro were registered. The fields throughout were good, and, with one exception—the Trial Plate —the scratching pen was not much in evidence. The racing was free from untoward incident or accident, and ac no reports of enquiries were communicated to the press it may be assumed that the stipendiary steward in, attendance had an easy time of it.

.The totalizator department was not kept, as busy as usual. Speculation on the eight events amounted to £37,139, which is a. decrease of £3575 compared with the corresponding day last year.
