HUTT COUNCIL VACANCY

Two nominations were received for the seat on the Lower Hutt Borough Council, vacant by the retirement of Colonel J. R. Purdy—viz., Mr. William Hobbs (nominated by Messrs. A. Macaskill, S. Clendon, F. J. Pinny, G. M. M'Kibbon, and A. E. Gannaway) and Mr. Alex. G. Heron (nominated by Messrs. James 0. Anson, C. D. M. Upton; S. G. Watson, William Hendry, and the Rev. J. G. Gibson). Since the closing of the time for receiving nominations, Mr. Hobbs has intimated that he does not intend to go to the poll,' as he has accepted a commission in the reinforcements.
