AGAINST CONSCRIPTION

Members of the Plasterers' Union, at their meeting this week adopted a resolution to the effect that conscription of men should not be entertained nntil conscription of wealth has been brought into operation.

Caterpillars have appeared in great numbers in various parts of the Opotiki district, and oat crops have-suffered more or less from their hivages (says the East Coast Guardian). Otherwise the crops are reported to be excellent. At Waiawa a few days <igo immense numbers of caterpillars were said to have been seen near the road. Moat fanners who found the insect at work cut their oats on the green side, but in a few instances the oats had nut vctiuhed a eufllcient stale of maturity to render that course advisable.
