MAGISTRATE'S COURT
.Z.The sitting of the Magistrate's Court to-day was presided over by Mr. D. G„ A:1 Cooper, S.M. -■-..• -Fordrunkenness, Albert Doggarb and Joseph Daniel Collins were each fined 10$, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. The, last-named is to be handed oyer to! the military authorities; George William Jackson was fined 40s, in default seven'days in gaol, : and John O'Neil was fined 20s, with the option of' three days' imprisonment. Four first offenders Were also dealt with.
•■-On his fourth charge' of insobriety within six months, Joseph William Georgesoh was fined 405,. in default seven days' imprisonment, and on a charge of using obscene language in Willis-street (after his arrest), was fined £.3, in default one month's imprisonment, j, ;-An old man, James Dungan, was charged with being a rogue and vagabond, in that he was found iii tho early hours of this morning without lawful excuse on the premises of the Crown Theatre Co. He was in such a shaky condition ,that the-.Magistrate remanded him for a week for" medical treatment.
?: Frederick Lennan, for the theft of 79 boxes of cigarettes, valued at £1 9s 63, and two tins-of ginger, valued "at 3g, the property of Henry Brown, a restaurant-keeper,, was sentenced to three months-imprisonment.
;" The "hearing of the evidence in the case against .las. Elleray, licensee of the Princess Hotel, 'charged with selling liquor on Sunday, 19th December, was concluded. The Magistrate intimated Chat he would give his decision the following day. Mr. H. F. O'Leary appeared, for defendant. •"''■/
