TWO INQUESTS
An inqnest concerning tfae death on Thursday last of Ethel .Julia Wataoa, a. married woman, residing at 35, Owen, street, Newtown, was held before, Mr. D. G. A: Cooper, S.M., yesterday, iln his evidence D*. L. A. Line stated that he was first called ;to attend deceased on Sunday, 2nd January, ■ when she was suffering from the effects of poison. She stated that she had taken three tabloids of corrosive sublimate for a certain > purpose. Although everything possible was' done for the woman, she succumbed on Thursday. Frank West Watson, husband of deceased, stated that, though she had been acting queerly, she did not give any indication of her intention. After hearing further evidence, the Coroner returned a verdict that death was caused by acute mercurial poisoning, self-administered while in a state of temporary insanity. . An inquest was. also held concerning the death of Alfred Williams, wharf labourer, who died suddenly on the steamer Ocean Monarch last Monday. The medical evidence testified that death was due to heart failure following pleurisy, and a verdict to that effect was returned. •
