Desperate battles are being fought on two hundred miles of front! General Mackensen is unable to think of Salonika whilst fighting desperately to' resist- Eussia. ' Bucharest states that Eussia is pouring in troops on a colossal scale.-The Tsar is personally in command. PETROGEAD, 7th January. - 'A Eussian- communique says :We occupied the cemetery at Chartorysk, driving back the enemy and making further progress, also establishing a, position in the sectors captured near Czernowitcz. GERMANS USE DUM-DUM BULLETS. LONDON, 7th January, 4.20 a.m. • The High Commissioner reports:— N • In the Biga district fighting continues. The enemy is using dumdum bullets to stop the, Russians. We took the cemetery at Chartorysk.. The enemy's attempts at the offensive at-Bojan were repulsed.
