LIVELY AERIAL OPERATIONS.
LONDON, 31st Dec, 1.30 a.m,
Tho High Commissioner reports:—
Yesterday sixteen of our aeroplanes bombed the Comines station, hitting tho railway lines and sheds. Ten of our aeroplanes heavily attacked an aerodrome, doing considerable damage. In both cases all machines returned safely. During the day we had twelve encounters with hostile aeroplanes";- one fighting four of the enemy,- all of which were driven off. One of ours brought down in the combat two of the hostile machines. During the night the enemy heavily shelled the trenches south of Fricourt, but were immediately driven out. North of Ypres there is artillery activity on i both sides. In the Artois, munition depots were exploded south-west of Beauraines and in the sector of Beauvraignes. North of Soissons an enemy battery was silenced and damaged. PARIS, Ist January. A French official messages states: The bombardment of enemy trenches at Bocsingho was successful, and north of the Aisne we demolished a German work. The M'euse heights were the scene of effective cannonading against blockhouses. In the Vosges a violent infantry attack was successfully replied to. Near Dixmude the Belgian artillery was active. A German attempt to caoture an observation post near Hill 193' with a hand grenade party failed completely.
