BOWLING

CENTRE TOURNAMENT

WIND VERSUS ACCURACY.

The New Zealand tournament, under the management of the Wellington Bowling Centre, commenced on Saturday, on the Wellington, Tlrorhdoh, NewtdW'n, Victoria, and Hataitai greens. The greens, after a- spell of dry weather, were fast and, generally speaking, iri good condition, b\it a blusterous nor'-wester made anything like accurate play very difficult at times, and a nervous player j was not likely to be made any steadier by the spectacle of the mat bej ihg blown into the third or fourth rink beyond him, or by ari accurately played bowl being driven about ten feet "down." However, it was the sariie for everybody, but it should be mentioned iri. justice that some of the big victories and defeats were not wholly the fault of the players. The entries numbered 58, the teams being divided into, four sections of 12 each, arid brie (E). of 16. The first prize consists ol _ t'Srtificato ior t each player of the. winning rink, one, for | the club, and the Flyger Shield, which ! -vVill he held by the club for a year The club of a winning tearii which scbres the highest nuhiber of points in section play will hold the Gisborne Rose Bowl until Ist January,. 1917. In the absence of Mr J. J. Roberts (secretary to the centre), Mr- S. H Uiide.fwood is iri charge of the arrangements. ■ ' The results of. Saturday's play .were as under :— , Section A.
