THE ATTACK ON DURAZZO
SINKING OF AUSTRIAN DE-
STROYERS.
ROME, Ist January.
An Austrian cruiser with five destroyers attempted to repeat the exploit' of bombarding Durazzo. They were allowed to approach and open fire. Then the Italian, British, and French cruising squadron appeared. A seaplane was launched from the Austrian cruiser, which was just in time to notify the cruiser that the Allies were, coming, when a shot through the motor sent the seaplane headlong into the sea, and the Allies attacked the squadron, while tor-pedo-boats attempted to cut off the retreat. The seaplane's warning, however, enabled the Austrians to fly, leaving the Triglav and Lika (destroyers) in a sinking condition. Some of the Lika's crew were made prisoner, but the Triglav sank with all hands.
