UNDER TWENTY-ONE
The licensee of th© Shamrock Hotel, Molesworth-6treet, Henry Bertram Reid, was: charged, in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., with having sold liquor to one H. Potter, who was under the ago of twenty-one years. Mr. J. J. M'Grath appeared for the defendant, and admitted that Potter was under the age of twenty-one, but contended that he was not "apparently under the age of twenty-one." Inspector Hendrey said that Potter was eighteen years of age last August. Potter told the Court that^ he was a driver, and earned a man's wages. When asked by the police, he said he was twenty-one. His companions called for the drinks. Defendant admitted selling the liauor to Potter, and certainly thought he wa« twenty-one. His Worship convicted the defendant, and imposed a penalty of £1, with 17s costs.
