PROTEST AGAINST CONSCRIPTION
WITHOUT VOLUNTARYISM BEING
FAIRLY TRIED.
(BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
AUCKLAND, This Day. At a meeting of the Labour Representative Committee, a resolution was carried protesting against the suggestion to introduce conscription without having given the voluntary system a fair trial, and desiring to draw attention to the fact that, while compulsory service was freely advocated, the voluntary system of financing wounded soldiers was "being worked to death, and the financial burden of the war thrown on the shoulders of those least able to bear it. The Government is requested to establish training camps in each of the four centres and to provide the cost of equipping and training expeditionary forces, as well as sending home wounded soldiers, by the imposition of a tax on incomes.
