SHEEP

A SLIGHT FALLING OFF,

Sheep, which were in good condition, with the exception of the Southdown classes, were not so strongly represented as last year. However, there were some very excellent exhibits, and competition

[ was most keen. In Lincolns, W. Perry j (Masterton), Mrs. J. D. Ormond (Hasi tings), W. Eaynor (Masterton), and J. :W. Compton (Clareville) were the chief winners. That popular breed, Romney Marsh; was not so widely represented as it has been. This year Masterton scored heavily, Mr. Wm. Perry carrying almost all before him, and appropriating the championships. The Parorangi | flock was not represented, nor was Mr. Jacob's flock.

English Leicesters were a gift to S. E. Lancaster (Fitzherbert), Border Leicesters in the wool to Mrs. J. D. Ormond and Shropshire Downs to W. Raynor (who took the ram championship), and G. L. Marshall (Marton), who secured the ewe championship. i n Southdowns (in the wool), the Cup presented by the English Southdown Sheep Society 'went to Messrs. Raymond and Fernie (Hastings) Mr. J. Knight (Feilding) coming second. The champion ram was shown by Mr. J. Knight and the champion ewe by Messrs. Richmond and Fernie. The other prizes in the class were divided by these exhibitors, and Messrs. J M'Gregor (Masterton) and W. Howard Booth.

Vx. W. F. Jacobs won the fleece wool class with a Romney Marsh sheep In fat sheep, Alters Bros. (Linton) were chiefly successful, though Messrs. Symes, of Waverley, ran them closely. These two breeders divided honours in fat lambs.
