Balboa has been scratched for the Stewards' Handicap, and Sir Alba and Native Lady for all engagements at the C. JC. Meeting. ALLEGED THEFT OF MONEY (IT TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ' ASSOCIATION.) PALMERSTON N., This Day. James Fitt was charged with stealing £317 in. gold from. Hum Kee. The police gave evidence that accused had been employed by the Chinaman, who h»d the money locked in a box. A sum of £267 in gold was identified by the Chinaman. It was wrapped the same as the missing money, and wa3 found in a trunk deposited at another residence by accused. Accused was committed for trial. A STRANGE DEATH ♦ (»T TELEGRAPH.— PI.ESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Alexander Glennie, 69 years of age, was found in Cornwall Park on a wood heap wirh a deep cut on his wrist and suffering^ from loss of blood and shock, from which he died at the Costley Home. He stated that he had sustained injuries by falling from a window. ' At an inquest, evidence was given that deceased was found alongside a chopping block, and that there was a sharp axe close by, with bloodstains on the blade. Deceased said he might' have injured himself with the axe; he didn't remember The verdict was that death was due to exposure and exhaustion, following severe hemorrhage.
