THE DARDANELLES
FRENCH COMMUNIQUE A QUIET FORTNIGHT. (Received October 18, 1 p.m.) PARIS, 17th October. A communique states : The first fortnight of October at the Dardanelles was calm. Attempts to approach our trenches by means of mines were stopped by counter-mines. The Turkish artillery was active, but ineffective, thanks to the superiority of our battery. Our aircraft daily bombarded the enemy's various establishments and camps.
