The Incorporated Society of Meat Importers 1 Smithfield market quotations for frozen meat are based on actual sales of not less than one hundred carcases of mutton or lamb, or twenty-five quarters of beef, of fair average quality. The quotations are not for selected lines, but for parcels fairly representative of the bulk of the shipments now on the market The prices which follow are on the average a farthing per lb more than the values ex ship, this difference representing the average cost in expense, handling, conveyance, and selling the meat : — Mutton — Canterbury, light, 7§d; Can terbury, medium, 7id ; Canterbury, heavy, 7d ; New Zealand, ewes, s!d ; Australian, heavy, sj|d; Australian, light, sid; Australian, ewes, 5-Jd ; Ttiver Plate, light, 6gd , River Plate, heavy, 6d ; River Plate, ewes, sid. Lamb— Canterbury, light, B|d ; Canterbury, seconds, 7£d ; Canterbury, medium, 7|d ; Canterbury, heavy. 7£d ; Southland, 7£d ; North Island, ordinary, 7fd ; Australian, inferior, 6|d ; River Plate, first quality, 7d; Riyer Plate, seconds, 6£d. ' Beef — Argentine, chilled fores, 6gd ; Argentine, chilled hinds, 63d. RABBITS. The market is a shade easier; high prices are checking business. LONDON MARKETS. LONDON, 16th October. Wheat. — The market is quiet on the reaction in America. Chicago December options, 109 i cents to 107^ cents ; May options, 109J cents to 108| cents. Cotton — October-November shipments, 7.15 d per lb. Jute — Native first marks, October-No-vember shipment, £25- (10s higher). - N.Z. Hemp. — Unchanged at £33 per ton. Rubber — Hard fine Para, 2s s£d per lb; plantation, 2s 6£d ; smoked sheets, 2s s!d. Copra — September-October shipments, £24 2s 6d per ton. Hides — Quiet. Australian, 9gd to IOJd. Leather — Moderate demand for light shades ; less enquiry for heavy. Best Australian, 17s to 21s; basils quiet. First Sydneys,'l4s to 16s; New Zealands, 19s. METAL MARKETS. LONDON, 16th October. Antimony, 9s 3d, 9s 6d. Copper— Spot. £72 7s 6d to £72 12s 6d ; three months, £72 15s to £73. Lead, £24 17s 6d to £23 7s 6d. ENGLISH, SCOTTISH. AND AUSTRALIAN BANK LONDON, 16th October. The English, Scottish, and Australian Bank, Ltd., has declared a profit of £240,139. The interest on perpetual stocks totals £96,870; reserve fund, £15.000; divisible profits amounted to £128,269, making a further dividend of 4 per cent. ; £35,000 was carried to the reserve. £14,385 to the cancellation of deposits, £2500 to the officers' fund, and £33,229 carried forward. PATERSON. LAING, AND BRUCE, LTD. LONDON, 16th October. Paterson, Laing, and Bruce, Ltd., have declared a profit of £65,702, and a divi dend of 6 per cent. The sum of £3000 was credited to the pension fund, and £26,702 was carried forward.
