(Press Association.) SERVIA'S SPLENDID FIGHT
THE HELP OF THE ALLIES LONDCIT, 17th October. The splendid fight which the Servians are putting up against tremendous odds is arousing anxiety in Britain and France as to whether the Allies' assistance will arrive in time. It is rumoured in well-informed circles in Paris that Italy is sending 150,000 men to assist Servia, arranging for intervention at a spot where thefe may be a decisive result in the campaign. ,• The Allies are leaving Salonika on Sunday and going to Ghevgheli. Nish and other towns are preparing a great reception for the British and French troops. Everyone is convinced that the arrival of a few regiments will so raise the spirit of the Servians that they will prove invincible. Official Teports from Nish on Saturday evening stated that the fighting was of the most terrible character on the whole of the Austro-German and Bulgarian fronts. ZURICH, 15th October. The arrogant tone of the Austrian newspapers has changed to a sober appreciation of the fact that the Servians are making an incredibly stubborn resistance. ALLIES' TROOPS STILL LANDING. (Received October 18, 9 a.m.), ' PARIS, 17th October. The Matin states that, large numbers of British troops have been landing at Salonika since Friday. (Received October 18, 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, 17th October. , The Allies' forces left Salonika on Saturday for the Serbo-Bulgarian frontier. PARIS, 17th October. General Sarrail has taken over the command of the Allies troops. The British and Italian military attaches, and various British generals, participate in the discussions.
