GENERAL CABLES EARTHQUAKE IN SAN SALVADOR

Reports from one large town declare that only four structures are left •■ ; standing. ; • [San Salvador was founded in 1528, 1* and in 1854 was destroyed by an earth- . quake. A new town was built twelve •; miles south-west of the original site. '-' Violent shocks of earthquake have since ' visited the capital— in 1873, 1879, and t TASMANIAN BUDGET ; THE TREASURER'S DILEMMA, HOBART, 15th October. The Treasurer (Hon. J. A. Lyons) in ' his Budget stated that the year ended . with a deficit of £140,000, including £40,000 advanced against ore and £15,- [ 000 loss on imported wheat.
