HEROIC EXPERIMENT
WOMAN TESTS GANGRENE CURE. LONDON, Ist October. Miss Mary Davies, a bacteriologist, nearly lost her life making an experiment to test an antidote. Though previous tests on animals had been fatal, she infected herself with gangrene, making a deep incision in each leg. She then telegraphed for Dr. Taylor, an American scientist, who injected quinine hydro-chloride. It is claimed, that the discovery will save the lives of thousands of gassed soldiers (who suffer from a deadly form of gangrene). Miss Davies is a daughter of Sir Henry Davies, an ex-Governor of one of the Indian provinces.
