Wheat, nominal ;„_ flour, £17; oate, Chilian 3s Id to 3s 6d, Japanese 2s s£d ; maize, £4 9s; bran, £4; pollard, £8; potatoes, £8 10s to £9 ss; onions, £5 10s to £5 15s. WOOL SALES. (Received October 2, 12.15 p.m. LONDON, Ist October. Afc the wool sales, the distribution was as follows: — Sold for home consumption, 128,000 bales; for the Continent, 7000 bales; for the United States, 15,000 bales; held, 50,000 bales. The series was marked by a 6trong demand* from the United States for best crossbreds. Tho Russian demand was best for merinos, but the Yorkshire demand was fitful and erratic, but more normal and cheerful towards the' close. Best scoured merinos were in strong demand generally at gd to Id above the July rates. Good greasy combings were firm and unchanged; faultier sorts further declined by 5 per cent. All fine and medium crossbreds reached the highest prices of the year. Shabby and faulty declined 5 per cent; finer scoured was in good demand from par to a 5 per cent, decline. Slipes weakened till they were 15 per cent, below July rates. In the last ten days a strong demand arose, includtag that of tho United States. CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS. (BT TBLBGRAra.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCH, Ist October. There is no change in the grain markets and no business doing. The only trade of any importance that is being done is in potatoes. There is now a fair enquiry from the North Island, and during the week a. considerable quantity has been purchased for shipment to Australia. The market is firmer, sales having been made at £5 103 to £5 15s, and it is reported that one or two lots have changed hands at more money. Offerings are not being very freely made by growers. There is some enquiry for oatstraw chaff from the North Island, but tho price o*Sered is low.
