THE ENEMY'S REPORT "GREAT OFFENSIVE HELD UP"
AMSTERDAM, 28th September. A German communique states : Warships continue isolated shots in the environs of Middelkerke. The enemy has not renewed his attacks south-west of Lille, where our cownter-attacks arrested the great offensive. Several isolated attacks north and south of Loos collapsed, with English losses. Attacks on both sides of Arras were bloodily repulsed. We captured twenty-five officers, 2600 men, and fourteen machine-guris. The French offensive at Reims and in the Argonne has not progressed. It was especially severe on fche road between Sommepy and Suippes, also north of Beausejour Farm, where it failed, with very heavy losses. We took prisoner forty officers and 390 men. We shot down three aeroplanes, including a great French battle aeroplane. There have been aerial battles north-east of Ypres and south-west of Lille. Two French aeroplanes were brought down in the Champagne region.
