STRUGGLE AT CADORE FRONTIER AUSTRIANS DRIVEN BACK AFTER FURIOUS COMBAT. ROME, 14th August. Official.— The struggle behind the Cadore frontier is more intense. The enemy in the Monte> Piana zone, supported by many guns, attempted on Friday to counter-attack against the positions whence they were expelled on Thursday. After a furious combat they were driven back with heavy losses. While our artillery in the Sexten Valley was maintaining a continuous fire on the enemy works, our infantry climbed and entrenched themselves on the summit of Oberbacherkanzel, south-eastward of Berbakheaspitze. (This area is some miles north of the frontier due north of Venice,) Another detachment meanwhile occupied an important group of alpine communications westward of Fortyella Centigia. Other batteries on the Isonzo started a destructive fire against the defences of the Plezza Valley. Direct hits were obtained against a battery skilfully hid-, den by caves. Some enemy entrenchments fronting us at Monte Sebusi were shattered, and many of the occupants took to flight and were killed by shrapnel and rifle fire. AUSTRIAN BOMBARDMENTS.
