PETONE LOAN CARRIED
£25,000 FOR SEWERAGE WORKS. ' Very little interest was taken in the loan poll to sanction the raising .«f £25,000 for the completion and extension of the Petone sewerage scheme. Th© poll clerks were given practically a negligible amount of work throughout the day, as will be seen from the fact that only 80 ratepayers recorded their votes. In this connection complaint has been made that the poll was not sufficiently advertised. It is stated that a largo number of ratepayere, who would have recorded their votes on thiß important proposal, did not do so for the simple reason that they were unaware a poll was being taken. It is also pointed out that the practice of calling a public meeting prior to* the polling was dropped on this occasion. The proposal was carried by a large majority, the voting being as follows:— Votes polled. For the proposal 72 Against the proposal . 8 Majority ' 64
