ALLEGED DEFAMATORY LIBEL

An application was made yesterday by Mr. P. J. O'Regan to Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., in Chambers, for leave to institute proceedings for defamatory libel against Laetitia Jane Hood, of Wellington. The application was made on behalf of Lily Dalziell, of Wanganui, and arose out of ma-tter contained in certain anonymous letters addressed to members of the Catholic clergy and others, and which were the subject of a recent prosecution in the Magistrate's Court at Wellington. The application, which was made in accordance with section 235 of the Crjmes Act, 1908, was granted.
