TECHNICAL EDUCATION

♦ — MEETING OF THE BOARD. Mr. D. Robertson presided over a meeting of the Wellington Technical Education Board held last evening. There were also present: — The Hon. J. G. W. Aitken and Messrs. Martin Luckie, W. H. Field, G. Frost, and W. S. La fTrobe (director). The financial statement showed the receipts for thp month to be £948 16s 9d and the expenditure £168 18s lOd. There was a debit balance of £833 9s lOd, as compared with £1454 17s 2d at the corresponding time last year. The Finance Committee's report was adopted. A letter was Received from Mr. D. E. Hansen, director of the Southland Technical College, asking for the cooperation of the Wellington Board in seeking, through the Ministers of Education and Railways, due recognition of the training given to Technical College students in the trades and industrial courses. When vacancies in Departments were being filled, it was considered that the Technical College students should receive preference, provided they had passed a satisfactory, examination. During discussion on the matter, it was pointed out that similar correspondence had been received some time ago from the Westport School, and when Mr. BJloy, General Manager of Railways, lS>4 been approached he seemed to be sympathetic ; but after looking into the matter, stated that lie could not make any concessions. It was decided to send a reply to the Southland Board to the effect that the Wellington Board was prepared to join with it in the matter.
