WOMEN IN GERMANY
WORKING FOR THE- EMPIRE. EXTRAORDINARY ORGANISATION. LONDON, 25th June. A neutral visitor to Berlin, writing in The Times, emphasises the remarkable success 'which Germany has had in organising her women, who are everywhere thrust into positions of great responsibility. A party of women of gentle birth was see*n digging a drainage ditch at Berlin. Forty per cent, of the workers manufacturing high explosives for shells and packing cartridges are women. Fifteen per cent, of the hands making harness, 50 per cent, of the tent-makers, 33 per cent, of the chemical-makers, 75 per cent, of those packing tinned meats for the army and in the textile mills, and 70 per cent, of the tobacco .workers are women.
