NEW FREEZING WORKS AT WANGANUI
m COMPANY CONTROLS SEVERAL WORKS. (Br IH-MttAfH— PRESg ASSOCIATION.) WANGANUI, 24th June, The essential- preliminary step in an industrial enterprise of immense interest to Wanganui and the whole of this coaet has just been completed, negotiations for the purchase of a site for new freezing works having been brought to a successful issue. The chosen site consists of a block of twenty-four acres at Imlay, between the town and the Heads, an ideal location ijir the requirement* of the industry, being close to the port and with direct access by road, rail, 'and river. The vendor of the land was Mr. Fred Faber, "and the purchaser is the Christdinrch Meat Co., Ltd., the largest concern of the kind in the Dominion. Building operations are to commence as coon as possible, and it is expected that the work*, which are to be in brick, j will b« ready for business in August next year. J Not less than £100,000 will be invested in the site, buildings, and plant. The works are> being planned for a killing capacity of 4000 sheep and 100 head of cattle per day, and a storage capacity of 200,000. The company controls five freezing works at Islington, near Christchurch, Smithficld works in the vicinity of Timaru, Burnside works near Dunedin (the pioneer plant of the Dominion), works at Picton, and the recently completed work* at Pukeuri, near Oama.ru.
