BOMBARDMENT OF REIMS
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The High Commissioner reports : — - LONDON, 17th June, 2.50 a.m. North of Ypres the British took a line of German trenches. In Arras sector the Allies gained ground east of Lorette, south of Souchez, and in the Labyrinth, taking 300 prisoners. At Quenneviere several counter-attacks were repulsed ; the Allies' gains extended north-west of trenches previously captured. We took 100 prisoners. The enemy bombarded Reims. Of 100 shells, several being incendiary, 10 fell on the Cathedral. In the Vosges, the Allies made important progress on both banks of the Upper Fecht, taking Braunkapf, with 300 prisoners and much material. On Tuesday German airmen bombed Nancy, Saint Die, and Belfort. At Nancy only some civilians were struck. RIOTING AT MALINES SEVEN HUNDRED PEOPLE KILLED (Received June 18, 3 p.m.) AMSTERDAM, 17th June. A traveller from Ghent declares that some women at Malines commenced rioting on Tuesday, and almost tbo entrre population participated. The Germans fired indiscriminately, and quite seven hundred were killed. Malines has now been isolated by means of electrified wires.
