She is due here about midday to-morrow with 151 saloon and 83 steerage passengers HINEMOA FOE SOUTHERN LIGHTHOUSES On her periodical visit to the southern lighthouses the Hinemoa will leave Wellington tomorrow. It is expected that she will be absent from this port for about three weeks. During that time Captain Bolloife will remain ashore on holiday leave. Mr. G. Drummond, chief officer of the vessel, taking command for the time being THE AORANGI In connection with the sale of the Aorangi, reported in Friday's Post, the Ijttelton Times saye : — The purchase for army purposes by the Imperial Government of the steamer Aorangi, which the Union Steam Ship Company has employed for several years in the New Zea-land-San Francisco mail service, will take from these waters, or at any rate remove from the Dominion's maritime register, the last of the old-timers, "the once splendid fleet of barquerigged mail liners which year after year performed the great round voyage from London to New Zealand, via the Cape and back round the Horn with the time-table regularity almost of an express train. The Aorangi is only a small cruft ns modern steamerß go— she has scarcely the tonnage of the ferry steamer Wahine — but she was considered a kind of ocean palace when she was launched, and even to-day she i/> a popular ami comfortable passenger carrier " ASAMA MARU ARRIVES From Pacific Slope, via Honolulu and Auckland, the Japanese steamer Asama Maru arrived in port thfs morning, this being her initial vieit to Wellington. Afttr puttinc out the local portion of her cargo of case oil and timber the vessel will leave for Lyttelton and Dunedin at an early date to , discharge the remainder NEXT WEEK'S SAILINGS FOR SYDNEY Under ordinary circumstances there would be two passenger steamers leaving Wellington next week for Sydney direct — the Maitai, en route from San Francisco, and the Manuka. In view of the large amount of cargo to be handled at Lyttelton, however, it has been decided to despatch the Manuka from the southern port direct for Sydney, as was recently done with the Moeraki. The Maitai is to sail from Wellington on Friday, the 18th June, for Sydney WAIHORA, FOR CALCUTTA After discharge of her produce from southern New Zealand ports at Sydney the Waihora proceeds to Newcastle to lord a cargo of coal for Batavia. She will after* ards load at Calcutta, Singapore, and Samarang for New Zea -land and Australian ports , TO LOAD AT NEW YORK The local agents for the C. and D. Line have been advised that the Port Philip is to take the loading berth at New York for New Zealand ]K>rts.
