The Swedish barque Rosval, bound for Sutiderland with a cargo of timber was btopped by a German submarine, but was allowed to proceed, and was then blown up, presumably by a torpedo. The- Italians occupied Gradisca (east of tho Isonzo River) on Tuesday, after heavily bombarding the fortress. The Austrians replied vigorously for a few hours, but their fire then died down. The Italian cavalry entered the town in the evening, and found that the Austrians iiad evacuated it. The populace was almost starving. Two thousand people were transferred to Udine, where they were succoured. The Italians have also occupied the island of Grado. [Gradisca is a town on the rigli^ or west bank of the Isonzo River, about eight miles from the Gulf of Trieste, and six miles east of the Italian frontier. It was formerly strongly fortified, but has not been modernised.]
