HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT

The High Commissioner reports :—: — LONDON, 28th May, 10.25 p.m. On the Vistula and the Bzura, the Russian light infantry bayoneted sixty of the enemy in a succeseful skirmish with pickets. The_ survivors were made prisoner. ' In the direction of Opatow, enemy attacks in great force were without result. In Galicia, on Tuesday night, the enemy attacked on the whole front of the Upper Vistula and the left bank of tho San, and were everywhere repulsed with great loss. The very stubborn battle on both banks of the San, between Przemysl and the River Lubaczowka, and between Przemysl and the great marshes' of the Dniester, continues to be intense. In the region beyond the Dniester, on Tuesday, the enemy opened a determined offensive on the whole front from the great marshes of the Dniester to Dolina. On. this and the following days the enemy suffered enormous losses and were nowhere successful. The hostile element which pierced between the Russian " points d'appui," near Stryj, were destroyed by our fire. JDuring the counter-attaok the- Russians took- many prisoners. The number is indefinite. LONDON, 28th May, 10.25 p.m. " Petrograd reports that in, the , region of Shavli, the Russians were successful on Tuesday and Wednesday, and progressed south-west of the MuraviewoSliayli line and the lower Dubis'sa, repulsing the enemy. We took the offensive at Rossieny, capturing several hundred prisoners, autpmobiles, and other trophies. At the Bobr River, the enemy's right on Tuesday opened a bombardment with heavy artillery in the region of OsKowiec, and attempted a fruitless offensive east of Jedwabeno, -undercover of asphyxiating gas. Several sectors on the Narew front were active with artillery and rifle firing.
