THE SUGAR SHORTAGE
SYDNEY, 28th May. Mr Knox (of the Colonial Sugar Com* pany), in a letter to tho press regarding his cablegram to Java ordering sugar, declares that one cablegram was held up for two days i the result boing the detention of the sugar, which was reoffered to him at a higher price, and he could only accept the offer because his company was bound by arrangement with the New South Wales Government to provide a supply during the shortage period. SYDNEY,' This Day. The Colonial Sugnr Company ha* assured the Hon D. R. Hall that it has completed purchases of sugar which will overcome the shortage.
