FRENCH GENERAL'S SLAIN SON

General d'Amade, the commander of the' French Expeditionary Force in the Dardanelles, writes, announcing the loss of his youngest son, Lieut. d'Amade, aged 18 years : — "He fell gloriously for France during a night reconnoitring expedition in the Argonne. Mortally wounded, he fell upon the very trenches he had been instructed to reconnoitre. Two German generals who witnessed his bravery and courage wrote to me, expressing spontaneously their admiration. "I have no need to tell you that his death has caused me great pain, but I could offer to our good France nothing more beautiful, pure, or generous than that child. We are proud, but after the war shall mourn him until death. I carry with me in my new mission this pain deeply engraved in my heart."
