BATTLE OF THE SAN
FIERCEST OF THE WAR PRAISE FOR BRITISH ARMY KING OF RUMANIA REVIEWS HIS ARMY TURKS CRACK CORPS DEFEATED BY AUSTRALASIANS
Following on the Bishop of Pretoria's letter, published yesterday, is which he made an appeal for more men, there is published to-day a flattering message from a Times correspondent on the men of the British Army in the field. They are all of one quality — the best; but he emphasises its great need — 'big guns and ammunition. Of the righting in Flanders the reports still tell of desperate doings, but the advantage lies with the Allies. In the eastern Iheatre the battle of the San is reported to be developing into the fiercest of the war. In the new theatre of war Italy has massed her troops at a point most dangerous to 'Austria, and the official mes^ sage to-day reports that a number of places have been taken in the Tyrol, and progress made eastward into Austria on the way to Trieste. King Ferdinand has reviewed his troops, and the general opinion is that Rumania is on the brink of war. Of the doings in Gallipoli the news to-day confirms the success of the Australian and .New Zealand troops against the "flower of the Turkish Army.."' Fierce fighting continues,;
