There was a big attendance at Uie memorial service held in connection with the death of General -Bridges, of tho Commonwealth Expeditionary Force. Those present included the State Governor, Sir Gerald Strickland, and the heads of the Defence forces. In the course of a stirring address, the Archbishop of Sydney said :—": — " We pause a little to pay" our tribute of sorrow and respect at his grave. Then we realise that the first call upon us is to take up the task for which he died aud prosecute it to the bitter end." COLONEL LEGGE'S SUCCESSOR (Received May 27, 9.20 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. Colonel Irving, Commandant of the South Australian Forces, has been appointed successor to Colonel Legge as Chief of the General Staff. Colonel Legge has taken the late General Bridges' place in the Dardanelles.
